No, it's still wrong. Apple does not ship feature phones, yet the title says only half of its output are smartphones. The correct title would be: "RIM, Apple, HTC to Ship 50% of all smartphones in Q1"

I don't think it's that surprising for Apple to increase shipments if this really is the quarter Verizon gets the iPhone, which seems pretty likely at this point.

Yes, I think it would be a good time to start learning the smartphone. It is changing our way of communication. And it might eventually obsolete the regular keypad phones. I hardly dial numbers anymore. I call someone just by clicking on the name/alias from the contact list.
