I was using "Rockwell HCF 56K Speakerphone modem." It was working fine untill it started throwing an error message.
When I go to dial up connection, enter the username and password and click on 'Connect' button, it says "Could not find a country, Please select a country"
But the problem is that there is no country to select.
Can any one help me out?
I removed the drivers in order to re-install them but unfortunately could not find them. I searched on the net but failed. I came to know that Rockwell has changed its name to Conexent.
Can any one provide the drivers for <b>Rockwell HCF 56K Speakerphone Modem.</b>
Thanks in anticipation.

Possible help:

<A HREF="http://www.modem-help.co.uk/chips/conhcf.html" target="_new">Modem Chipsets: Conexant (formerly Rockwell)</A>

<A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/software/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=23231#23231" target="_new">Modem Drivers</A>

<A HREF="http://www.du.edu/uts/helpdesk/56k/data.html" target="_new">56K Data Page</A>

Hey, xyz ... you forgot a cardinal rule when asking for a driver file on a message board; mentioning the version of the operating system. All drivers for all products do not work in all operating systems. When you need something specific, it's best to <i>be</i> specific, and provide the other person with all the helpful information possible.

This is not a personal criticism, you understand. That's not my style. I'm not the forum moderator, and I don't try to be. I'm just attempting to help you help yourself. The more information you furnish when making a request, the greater is the chance that you'll get a useful response.

You've been asking a lot of questions since arriving here at THGC, and that's an excellent thing. But because of the nature of the questions, might I suggest adding a signature to your posts that contains the specifications for your personal computers?

The <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/myanandtech.html" target="_new">AnandTech</A> website has a section where you can join their community, and then create a profile of your systems with a clickable link, which you can use in nearly any online forum. I've found it to be very handy to have the complete specifications for my computers as part of my signature, instead of having to list them in any posts that require the information.

I keep a text file that contains the links to my System Rigs on the Quick Launch Toolbar, and whenever I answer a post, I just quickly copy and paste the links into the post. It's a snap.

While there, you might also wish to join the AnandTech community, as they also have an active online forum.

For some questions, you might wish to check out <A HREF="http://www.google.com/advanced_search" target="_new">Google's Advanced Search Engine</A>, which is my personal favorite. Google also has a <A HREF="http://toolbar.google.com/" target="_new">toolbar</A> which can be installed in the browser, making quick searches much faster and easier.

Good luck with that modem driver!

Hey Toey,
I didn't even think of doing this until recently. I always wondered how your signature could be so long, but now I know...cuz I do the same thing! I have a text file set as my THG post template. Anyway, I just thought I'd say that. Hehe...

Ohhhh! I was just thinking that I have posted the request for drivers in Win98 forum, so I didn,t mention the operating system. Any way thanks a lot for your guidance.Never mind such things.

Great minds think alike?

I decided to do this because HTML can't be used on many of the online forums, and the Markup language varies from site to site, too. I keep four different sigs in the text file, depending on where I'm posting. It saves a lot of time when I need to ask a question and list my system specs, and I get to have an unique, individual way of completing my posts.

However, it occurs to me that I don't really ask many questions, so the sig might be bordering on overkill. But, wtf, it doesn't hurt anything, and everybody is used to it by now. It beats being boring.

No way, no how. I'm not enough of a masochist.

No one could convince me to take any responsibility for the content of this, or any other forum. I believe in being diplomatic, and ignoring posts that are written in such a way as to deliberately to provoke other people. But the idea of being in charge of the whole parade ... no thanks. Low pay, long hours, and no end in sight. I'd spend the majority of my time trying to enforce rules that lots of users would do everything possible to break, and that would severely curtail the amount of online technical support I can provide. It would be kinda like teaching kindergarten, with the majority of the kids armed with laser pistols.

I prefer to leave the completely thankless jobs to those who are eminently qualified for the post. That would not be me!

See ya!

Outta curiosity, what other forums do you contribute to? I used to do Anandtech, but they were just too slow for me sometimes.

Since I started doing online support, I've posted in 54 different forums. But the primary ones I check out are:

<A HREF="http://www.nvnews.net/forum/index.php" target="_new">nV News Forums</A>

<A HREF="http://www.sysopt.com/forum/index.php?s=" target="_new">SysOpt.com</A>

<A HREF="http://forums.gideontech.com/index.php" target="_new">GideonTech</A>

And of course, AnandTech.

But I must admit to having been solely concerned with THGC for most of the past year, and I tend to post very infrequently at the other sites. I used to go to <A HREF="http://www.extremetech.com/" target="_new">ExtremeTech</A>, but the site is just too disorganized for me, and the site moderator is an arrogant jerk, IMHO.

Toejam!
What's your screen name at <A HREF="http://www.sysopt.com" target="_new">SysOpt.com</A>
It is one of my favourite Sites, though I have never participated in online discussions there.
I haven't seen any Toejam there.

Same name. I just haven't had time to post there in a while. A lot of times, when I do have the chance to stop by, the questions are already answered, so I move on.

I don't currently have one ... I don't have time to do the maintenance. The majority of my business is word-of-mouth, and I do technical support and orders in person, or by phone and email. I might try to get something up later on; perhaps this winter, when things slow down a bit.

Boy theyll do anything to raise their post count. To answer your question goto control panel|modems|dialing rules and click edit. Select the correct country.

It was not so simple as you are assuming. I know where the country list is present to select one, but what will you do if there is no country to select???
