if they call it 2.4 then it wont make as big of an impact as it wouldv if named 3.0
v2 to v3 is a leap and a overhaul to an extent ... but 2.x is an update related to bugs and minor changes. thats the normal naming scheme of any product.

I think Honeycomb being versioned as 2.4 will make sense once we know more about it. Just like iOS is a cross-form-factor operating system. And being that 2.1 is already being used on tablets.

[citation][nom]nebun[/nom]i am still stuck with 2.1 on my ally, oh well...time for and iphone[/citation]

The only time it's time for an iPhone is when you've reached that stage where social prestige is more important than function.

Or when software is more important than hardware. Because clearly, so far at least, Android lacks in the gaming dept. big time.

Its just like comparing Windows (iphone) to MAC OS (Android). Windows has tons of apps and support, MAC doesn't.

And I did try the Samsung Galaxy, but because of lack of software switched to iPhone 4. I hope Microsoft WP7 can do better job as far as software goes...then maybe ill switch to that route.

what social prestige? i don't like the fact that android doesn't release the sys updates for all the handsets, at least when apple releases a sys update all gen of handsets receive it. plus the android os is very bloated when compared to the iphone

What? Android (Google) doesn't release any updates to any handsets except the Nexus 1. The handset manufacturers have to release the updates, most often because they have put in device or carrier-specific changes that must be merged to the latest Android release.

Because Apple makes every device that runs iOS, they can tailor iOS to work, out of the box, with every iOS device out there. Google only "makes" one phone (the second, Nexus S, is on the way). Every Dell, HTC, Samsung, Motorolla, and LG Android phone runs a customized version of Android (which is very cool). However, because of this, the manufacturers must wait for the the final release before they can adapt their own software and interface to the latest release.

When Microsoft released Windows Vista and Windows 7, did it come with drivers for your printer or wifi card or video card? No. The manufacturers of these devices had to create those drivers once they got a working copy of the new OS. If you were lucky, your manufacturer had those drivers released the day the new OS came out. If you weren't so lucky, you had to wait weeks or months for them to get you those drivers.

It's the same thing with Android. Android, like Windows, is open (with respect to applications) and customizable. It can be installed on any array of devices from phones to tablets to the Nook. The price we pay is that not everything works right on day one. If you can't handle having to wait, but you can handle some corporation telling you what apps you can run (including the content those apps can deliver) then feel free to use Apple. If you don't want Apple telling you that boobs and political satire are no-no's and forbidden, then Android is the way to go (from what I can tell, Microsoft and WP7 is not better than Apple).

Ohhh a Verizon release date... Let's see, using my trusty formula: ([expected date] - [current date] * 2) + [current date] + 1 = [actual expected date]

The actual expected date is april 2011. Ask again next month and I will have an updated figure.

i totally agree with you...there should be a way were you don't have to wait for the carrier to issue the update for the OS. it should be implemented on all carriers, not matter what device you have. in that regard, google has failed, and yes you can surf for porn on an iphone, just use skyfire
