Run bios on external monitor

I have a busted screen on my laptop, I need to access the Bios screen but im using a external monitor, which doesn't come on until i'm at login screen. Is there another way to access bios? I need to reset my DVD driver which has disappeared from device manager.

Some laptops can run from external screen from start up, some do it only from Windows. And on some I guess the option can be set from the BIOS.

I know this doesn't answer you query but it may explain the issue.

As far as the DVD drive is concerned, it should be automatically recognised -- the only thing you can control regarding drives from the BIOS is boot order. If the drive has disappeared from Windows it may be defective.

Sounds like a new laptop is in your future.
