Solved! S3700 to DAC

I have a Sony BDP-S3700 Blu-Ray player hooked up to a Cambridge 851D DAC/PreAmp (coaxial cable from player to DAC and all I get is horrible static noise. I've got an HDMI hooked from the S3700 into the TV and audio and picture is fine. Do I have a defective DAC? The 851D has a bad reliability reputation.

You need to change the audio output of the BD player to PCM stereo. The Cambridge won't accept a bitstream multichannel input since it is stereo only.

I just discovered that by experimentation an hour ago. Plays great now. you're a genius!
