I added a 128GB Samsung MicroSD to my Samsung J3 Emerge. It only always shows 119.2 GB available. Is this normal?

It is likely that your phone is giving you the actual number and the manufacture of the card (which they all seem to do anymore) listed their 'altered' version.

In reality the correct numbers are (which companies actually don't seem to use anymore) 1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte, 1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte, 1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte, etc.. Using this method adds up to the correct amount.

However, many companies are using 1000 = 1 instead of the correct 1024 = 1, which leaves you with quite a bit less than you thought you were getting.

So that 128 GB you thought you got turns into the 119 GB you actually got.

128 * 1000 = 128000 * 1000= 128000000 * 1000= 128000000000 - their version

Now try reversing that using the correct numbers...

128000000000 / 1024= 125000000 / 1024= 122070.3125 / 1000 = 119.292895507813

Hence your difference.

I hope that explains. :)
