It is very possible to convert 2D to 3D. However it is not a perfect process. There are almost always some anomalies that will surface in the film. Generally, from my experience. Movies filmed in 2D are not worth watching in 3D. They were not designed to to be watched in 3D and sometimes the 3D affect is distracting from the original content.

Shutter glasses always give me the worst motion sickness.

A really good display and playback format will provide excellent depth of field.

Are most films shot in a binocular manner? Nope.

Wasted development money? You betcha.

Stereoscopic viewing of converted 2D media is terrible PERIOD. There is very little depth and tossing in rendered objects that fly from the screen is just a cheesy gimmick that is decades old. Watching red/green tinted video and keeping your eyes focused for hours is awful and probably not very healthy for your eyes.

Films designed for 3D (Avatar, My Bloody Valentine 3D, etc.) are much more impessive, but like it as been said before, the effect ends at the edge of your screen. We don't all have the space or money for 70-100" screens for acceptable immersion.

I just do not see the whole 3D thing making it way into the market right now. It's emerging with HDTVs pretty slowly, as this is only the first one out right now. It just doesn't seem to be taking off quickly, and IMHO, I don't see it becoming a standard by any measure.

I'm just gonna sit back and see how it all happens. Don't get me wrong, I think this is REALLY awesome, but it's all in the execution of the idea. For now, I'm very happy with my PS3 and 60" rear-projection Bravia. Can't wait to take avatar on blu-ray home to that!

[citation][nom]bison88[/nom]Nobody is going to rush to buy a 3D HDTV anytime soon this is going to backfire and out of there stupidity they are going to deserve the losses coming their way. Oh well time to kick up the feet and eat some popcorn and watch how this turns out.[/citation]
