SATA to USB Adaptor not showing up

Hi, I have just purchased a SATA to USB Adaptor Cable and have plugged my hard drive in one end and the other end in my laptop. The hard drive is humming but nothing is showing up on the screen. What can I do?

showing on what screen? assuming you are using windows, did it show up on disk management?

Yes I'm using windows, no it didn't.

Can you test the cable with another hard drive as well as testing it on another PC / laptop?
