I'm using a neumann TLM-103 mic. The output is hot enough to slightly
overpower the input preamp of a TEAC 1A mixer (with onboard pads on)
feeding my SoundBlaster Live card. Don't know if the tracks I'm
slightly unhappy with (hollow mids) are result of the 1A being
overdriven or the SB card's stinky A>D. 3 questions:
1) Will the US-122 or M-audio 1010LT preamps handle the mic's output
directly without additional pads?
2) Can I expect a significant sound improvement at all using either the
122 or 1010 vs. the SB's A>D?
3) Which pre of the 2 (122 or 1010) sounds best?
(Dell Pentium III 1 ghz, XP, ATA-100 80g drive)
(I do understand the 122 is USB, the 1010 is PCI, and other distinct
features of each unit - I'm looking for best sound quality under 300
bucks).
