This really isn't surprising, at all... Scammers always try to pull this stuff after disasters and only dumb people would donate their hard earned money to a charity without first researching said charity to make sure it was legitimate. Really?? an email from some no name reporter asking for money? If you're dumb enough to think it's legitimate will then good for the scammers I hope they make a nice living off of you. Please donate to established/trusted charities where you know your money will actually go to the cause.

Sad. Not sure who are worse, scammers or looters (of anything other than food, water, shelter).

Still, buyer beware when trying to assist/donate. Be sure you know who you are donating to and how those funds will be spent.

Our society has become all too tolerant of willful wrongdoing. Accidents, mistakes, even incompetence are one thing, but to know something is Wrong and do it anyway? Head in a bucket (to catch the mess) when someone pulls the trigger. GAME OVER.

I would never donate to a charity without doing a bit of research prior to donating.

I've relatives from the affected islands whose roofs got teared off from their homes and even family friends that got injured. There's a massive relief effort being conducted in the capital and elsewhere, and its disheartening that there are fellows who try to take advantage of other's misery.
