First of all, this is not NEWs. I read about this months ago. Secondly, this is one more step toward socialism. This president has shown repeatedly that he wants more and more control over things at the governmental level. It is very scary. Shame on all of you who voted for the sitting president.

I truly hope our elected representatives are not stupid enough to pass this bill. However, I also realize that Americans won't do crap about it if it does pass. We'll all sit on our butts and let Obama become a socialist dictator.

I'd like to figure out how they even COULD shut down all or any part of the internet short of pulling the power AND destroying the backup batts not owned OR operated by any arm of the government.

Not to mention how many people would die in hospitals because of the sudden lack of communication and systems f-ing up when they can't contact the appropriate resources. "Oh hey, I can't get this unconscious guy's file that says he's allergic to because I HAVE NO INTERNET CONNECTION to retrieve his file... btw he's dead now, swelled up like a blowfish"

for those of you who don't get my reference: botnets include pc's inside of networks you wouldn't expect, if said botnet is used for an attack then basically they can "shut down and gather info" from almost any building with a pc in it. see conflicker and other mass botnets.

For all you stating that this was news 5 months ago, did you read the article at all before posting. It states that is was proposed months ago, rejected, and this is the redraft with different wording.

This probably not true because Kevin seems to have some difficulty reporting anything accurately. He also has major spelling problems, he's not a journalist but a blog regulator.

[citation][nom]annisman[/nom]This is just one more case of the government trying to take our liberty away from us, the Liberals will be defeated we outnumber you 2:1 and now we are PISSED.[/citation]

Did any one of the three actually do any research before you grabbed your Obama tin foil hat? Are you guys really that Obama resentful? This bill was presented by a DEMOCRAT (jay rockafeller) and a REPUBLICAN (olympia snowe). No where (even in the misleading title) does it say Obama wants to shut your internet down. Please stick to you spelling and grammar checks....

Last time I checked, both Dem's and Rep's had power going to their heads. This bill wouldn't be good for anyone. What if your own goverment said we are shutting down your bank's internet because it might be "critical." You wouldn't be complaining if your bank account vanished due to a "computer error" would you?

By the way what's wrong with references to Fox News? It's not like it's the only biased network out there.

Forgot to put in original post:

Also for those complaining that Tom's already reported this, this article (late as usual) said it was rewritten and still isn't better.

Here's a constructive idea. Build a national infrastructure exclusively for the government that has no access to the internet. Putting up new lines and installing the hardware to make it work will open up jobs, and provide a network for the government to run all by themselves and they can shut it down any time they get a bug up their ass.

There is no reason to shut down the internet to protect a government who is too stupid to keep sensitive data off a globally accessible network. Spend a couple billion dollars and hands off my need for civil liberty on the net.

lastly Obama hasn't endorsed this bill, didn't sponsor it, and his only reference to the issue at all is that the US government is not prepared to deal with a major cyber attack. So before you start liberal bashing or talking of a socialist take over try reading before posting.
