[citation][nom]logitic[/nom]People who correct spelling errors, while using grammatical errors, make me want to kick baby Jesus in the face![/citation]
People who use the meme "Baby Jesus" make me wish natural selection worked like it used to.

No one quite knows what the student did that was caught on the webcam. Lots of people think he was caught smoking pot and was "disciplined" for that, but no one really knows.

if this was my kid I'd be looking to beat the shit out of some one, this is a MAJOR invasion of privacy. I so fucking tired of school thinking they can tell kids how to conduct them selves outside of school. when iw as in high school i had the asshole student counselor tell my dad they needed to take away my conan comics and stephen king novels cause it was "warping" my brain... i seriously find this shit dispicable.

that said remot acess on web cams is just teh reason why i never got one nor cared to get one.

[citation][nom]crazazyasian1337[/nom]ok, so I go to this school, and there are a few things to be cleared up.firstly, every student was given a MacBook by the school to take home and use for the whole year. These MacBooks however have the capability of being remotely accessed by the school at any time, a feature originally intended to be used in case the computer was lost. The problem is, someone has apparently been caught doing something illegal while at home through this camera, and thus the lawsuit began. The principal made a statement today during school saying the school district would never use the camera to spy on kids and that the whole situation was being blown out of proportion.[/citation]

The school owns them, so they should be able to monitor them in turns of HD content, making sure kids don't have pr0n or illegal music/movies etc on them. However, using the web cam to monitor the child is an eggregious violation of privacy. If this happened to me, I would be absolutely furious. It's insane. And the fact that the school has picture evidence of the child doing something OUTSIDE of school, and OUTSIDE of the school's jurisdiction, only serves to incriminate the school. This is absolutely outrageous. The school has absolutely no right whatsoever to discipline the kid for anything he does outside school, unless it obviously affects his school performance and they have legal proof of it. If the kid was coming in high/drunk to school, they can do something about that. But otherwise it is a horrible violation of privacy.

this is nothing short of a criminal act, especially if they're spying on these kids in their own houses!

[citation][nom]dj1001[/nom]if that was me i would just put a piece of tap over the camera[/citation]
Exactly what I was thinking for a quick fix, black electrical tape would work great. Then get down to finding the spyware and killing it.

There may be some arguments about it being the school property. But this seems like it could turn into a kiddie porn case really fast. It's one thing to be able to search a kids locker and backpacks, but it's another thing entirely to secretly allow school employees the ability to remotely turn on a web cam. Your kid leaves the computer on in their bedroom and next thing you know some dirty old man is watching your little girl get dressed.

This may not have happened but the fact that it's possible at all makes the whole setup ripe for abuse

This story is ridiculous, and the security feature is bollocks.

"Oh the laptop is stolen, lets take a picture of the user!"
How the phuck would that help. This literally makes me sick.

The school should not be monitoring the activity ON THE COMPUTER either. Let alone who is sitting at it.
My Landlord owns my house, but he is not allowed to just walk in and see how ive arranged my furniture! So why should the school be able to see what a student is doing with a laptop they lent the student outside of school hours.

Schools need to learn their place. I hope this one learns it big time.

[citation][nom]crazazyasian1337[/nom]we are unable to access bios[/citation]

there's no such thing as "unable to access bios" bios comes up prior to any other part of the boot process, including any security software.

@lehighace06

You are wrong.
Completely.
The option to stop someone from getting into the BIOS as well as password protect it has been in PCs for decades.

You might want to learn a little bit more about PCs before you post something completely retarded about PCs on a tech forum.
