Screen as a shadow

Hello,
I have a hp laptop and whilst watching a video the screen went blank. I knock it and it came on but half of the screen now has a transparent film across it with colorful lines running across does anyone have any idea how to get this off my screen your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try reseating the LCD screen cable(or video card if the laptop has one).... if no change, replace the LCD Screen - then mobo.

I know a few HP laptops have cabling that runs too close to the hinge, so when the machine and opened and closed repeatedly - the cable comes loose and causes video / display issues.

If you can remove the cover around the screen and hinge area and test the laptop and get no problems then look carefully at routing the offending leads a little better. I managed to resolve a similar issue with a HP, and used a hot glue gun to secure the cables.
