Screen resoution trouble

ok so i m using this laptop of my sister and she said it has display problems like it goes blank (not black) and shows different color each time like purple red blue other times just turns itself off. Now i found out that its the screen resolution problem. It only disturbs at native resolution and at 1024*768 it works fine. Any solution to this problem?

Check for newer drivers on the laptop support site, a BIOS update would be also good to run.

The color issue looks to be a failing video card, so a driver update may not help, if it still crashes at different resolution, run it at what works or have a repair shop look at it, it may need a new motherboard.

see if does same thing using an external monitor.

Seems like monitor cable. Try to open and close laptop and bend it a little and look and the display. If it's going blank and changing colors it is definitely cable or either LCD screen. To exclude any driver issues try doing it from BIOS menu.
Can you provide laptop model?
