I would LoL if it wasn't sad. The problem is that 0800 numbers are not necessarily free from Mobiles so one has to give up and go home to call.

If it saves a life it would be worth it. I would not be able to put a value on this if it where ever able to get the message through to my friend. What would also help is making people more aware about the problem of suicide, and how to identify and handle someone who might be... kinda like what the US navy has, it helps.

People are talking about the risk of falling off while reading this, but I think it's minimal at best. First of all, I doubt you'd notice it when you're just walking/driving over the bridge. Drivers probably won't even be able to see it. Second, you don't have to go and put yourself at risk to read it. All you need to do is stick your head out, not stand on the edge outside of the safety barrier things.

What if the jumper doesn't have a phone and has no money? Maybe they should follow China's lead and go with low-tech solutions, like giant nets.

Forget the bullseye... I was already thinking now I have something to aim for with the zero's or in one of the rings of the 8.

I personally think the projector should say "bet you won't, for help call 1-800-you-puss"

Seriously though I have no compasion for suicides. Hey you you want to kill yourself be my guest. It's your life it's your choice if you want to keep living it or not. Just don't expect me to cry for you, but I wouldn't hate for it either.

[citation][nom]TheRabidDeer[/nom]I am curious... if its illegal to kill yourself, then how exactly do they enforce that?[/citation]

Well its aimed toward attention whores.

[citation][nom]f-14[/nom]neat, hope it helps. now if they can just do something about the californian suicide rate tripling on cloudy/rainy days![/citation]

Well if I was forced to live in Kalifornia I would jump to.

A benign initiative, although how much it will succeed can't be said. The government should rather collect data to find out the cause of suicides and then act.

To the "how do you enforce a law making it illegal to kill yourself" folks, don't think enforcement and think of punishment if you commit a felony. Namely, if you commit a felony, the government can sieze your assets (in the US anyway), thus instead of a law, think of it as a tax. If you kill yourself, the government gets all your money instead of your heirs. I can't remember all the details as there are some stipulations, such as shared assets can't be siezed and such, but the whole point of making it a felony is so the government can get your money, and not to discourage you from doing it.
