Setting up Poopli Communications

Hello everyone,

I am new here and trying to set up with poopli and I am running into
some trouble! Hope someone can offer some advice.

It seems that in order to communicate properly and recieve shows thru
poopli, I must have a static IP address supplied by my ISP, is this the
case or am I way off base here? HELP? I can only get a dynamic IP
address from my provider.

If this is not true, then I am running into some REAL problems setting
up and hope that someone can offer some simple instructions.

No you don't need a static address. What you DO need is to set up port
forwarding to point to the port you opened on the RTV (full instructions
in your manual or at the RTV site). I've been using poopli for over a
year with DHCP and have had no problems.

Right! You can definitely do both IVS and Poopli using a dynamic IP address
from your Internet provider.

However, as stated by BruceR, you will need to setup port forwarding to get
IVS working -- but you should also setup your ReplayTV with a static IP
address to make sure the port forwarding sticks.

Check Poopli or avsforum.com for the process to setup IVS.

You do NOT need a static WAN IP (the one your ISP would provice). You
need a static LAN IP (the one on your own network). Note that WAN IPs
are usually 192.168.x.y where x depends on your router (and is
usually 0 or 1) and y is a unique number from 1 to 254 (1 is usually
the router).

A static LAN IP is usually required because the target of port
forwarding is usually a specific LAN IP.
