settings on the tv

i can hook up my dvd player to the tv just fine but i put a movie in i get nothing. my question is what settings on my tv do i do to watch my movie

It doesn't happen automatically, although some TV/DVD combo units are made so you don't have to think like a Samsung TV with a Samsung DVD player. Otherwise, if DVD is plugged into the HDM1 port then you need to tell the TV to switch into that port.
