So i want to get a new gaming laptop and i am looking to get a lenovo y-530 and I'm trying to decide if i should get 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD or 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD. The 256 GB SSD is $100 more than the 128GB so i don't know if it is worth the money to get the extra SSD.

I'd go for the 256GB + 1TB as minimum. I own a 128GB SSD + 1TB (desktop PC build) I wish I had gotten the 256GB instead as my SSD (used as system drive and programs/apps) is 70%-80% full. So, I have to always make a conscious effort to manage those temp files and desktop files (not to mention some game pagefiles in there as well).

My current laptop (Asus GL502VM) is a 256GB SSD + 1TB storage. No problems whatsoever in terms of reaching near maximum capacity. Worth the money for the 256GB (than the 128GB), IMO.

If the SSD isn't soldered on to the motherboard you can always replace it later on if it's not big enough. But having said that, a 128GB drive is likely to be nothing but a pain in the ass. Yes you can install programs to the 1TB drive, but micromanaging that stuff gets real old real fast. Unless the $100 is a deal breaker, I'd go for the 256 in an instant.
