Showstopper - Suddenly No Video!

I'm experiencing a problem with my Panasonic Showstopper that I hope
someone can help me out with. The problem is that I get sound, but no
video on my TV.

As background, I had a new cleaning service clean my house today, and
suddenly this problem surfaced. I don't know if it's related, but I
first thought that some wire was possible disconnected by the cleaners.
But, after checking things over, I'm worried that it may be the
Showstopper itself. Here's why ---

I have the Showstopper and my DVD player connected to the TV through an
S-video A-B switch. When I set the switch to DVD, I get video, when I
set it to the Showstopper, I don't. I've swapped the SS input into the
A-B switch with the DVD input and confirmed that the A-B switch is not
the problem. The only other thing I can think of is that some setting
on the remote got screwed up. However, I can pause and resume the sound
(again there's no video) on the SS thru the remote. I've checked the
connection in the back of the SS, and all appears in order. I thought
that perhaps the s-video cable between the SS and A-B switch had gone
bad, but if that's the case, I shouldn't be getting any sound either,
right?.

So I'm fresh out of ideas.

Any thoughts on what I can try? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Wrong.

The s-video cable has no effect on sound (except with some devices
that won't work at all without video, not your problem here).

Looks like you are thinking about the problem and trying to find the
bad component, but you missed one:
It could be the s-video output of the Showstopper. Try the regular
composite video output (RCA connector with yellow center).

BTW, I had a satellite receiver with the opposite problem. S-video
worked but the composite output didn't. Audio worked.

Mark, your reply to my post about the s-video output of the SS possibly being
the culprit prompted me to try swapping out some cables. I then saw that the
cables coming from the A-B switch s-video output and the input cable from the
DVD player had been switched. So, what probably happened is the cleaners
lifted the A-B switch to clean the surface underneath it, and the 2 cables
popped out. They then re-connected them incorrectly. Oh well, I guess I've
got a thorough cleaning service (that needs to develop skills in connecting
electronic equipment) !

Thanks for your help!

Bert

They do pop out easily. That's why I quit using s-video and went back
to composite. There is VERY little different in quality (I know about
the demonstrations, I mean in real situations) and the composite
connectors (RCA) stay in much better. This is especially inportant for
DVR inputs and automatic recordings (where you could miss several
shows before you found out).

There's also the problem with cleaning services, where you're not the
only one in control of what happens to your stuff. It's suprising how
many people don't seem to know what "input" and "output" mean.
