Is this normal? I was watching nascar racing, when they go to the in-car
cameras, they just use black bars on the sides. I actually got a tape
measure and measured the black bars. (It's nascar, I was bored) The bar on
the left side measured 4.125" in the middle, but the bar on the right
measured at 3.375, a difference of .75"
Also, when I'm watching standard analog television, and I set my tv stretch
off, the grey bars are also uneven, the right one coming in at 5.75" and the
left one at 6.1875" a difference of about half an inch.
My television is a 57" Toshiba, with a Motorola HD-DVR through Comcast in
Minnesota, if any of that makes a difference.

Well, normal, maybe, but it's just that the horizontal positioning of
your screen is off a bit. Unless you go into the technician service
mode, you cannot fix it yourself.

That is right. I had this on my Sony. I recorded the InHD HD Tuneup on
my HP DVR and used its test patterns to get my HD picture correctly
sized and positioned. Of course, I have the service manuals for my Sony.

When I first got this TV, I had a service guy out here for something
unrelated on another TV, and he offered to calibrate this TV, because I
mentioned some moinor pincushion effects. Seems he took care of that pretty
well, but he said were I ever to enter any calibration modes, I would undo
the work he had done. You guys think there's any truth to that? Think that
maybe he screwed somehting up that's giving me issues with the horizontal
positioning now?

Same here with both Baltimore 45 & Philly 57. In fact when I zoom in (on a
4:3 TV) the logo for 57 is cut off while I can see the left edge. Definitely
not my set as other stations have even sidebars.
