Hello my computer recently started having problems it has been freezing ALOT and at time is very sluggish. Orginally it was a very fast laptop (its a HP dv9000) but now its really bad.

IT IS NOT A MALWARE OR VIRUS Problem. I have ruled that out by reinstalling windows completely (I completely erased the drive partition and reformated the drive).

Currently i now have windows 7 running on it. It takes about 45 minutes to boot!
I ran a harddrive scan at boot screen and it said that my drive is working fine. I also did a full power drain on the laptop (didn't help). I also flashed the bios and updated most drivers to my motherboard and video card. I also blew compressed air into the cooling fan. None of these worked.

Can someone help me narrow down the problem. Today my computer froze and i rebooted and now all the windows effects are gone (it looks like windows 98 now). Sometime is gets hot but i don't know if it a cooling issue or my imagination. Thank you very much!

The hard disk scan (if you ran scan disk, which is what I think you ran) only checks your file system for errors. You should run a mechanical and media-checking diagnostic instead.

Download and burn a copy of the ultimate boot CD, and run the IBM/Hitachi utility (the first on the hard disk diagnostic screen).

If you are having problems you need to back up any valuable information on your hard drive. It could be a variety of problems--and some of them could result in system failure. Unfortunately laptops are not very easy to service...

(HP has the highest 2-year failure rate of any laptop manufacturer. )

Slow problem is a common event for Windows user. It's not all related with hardware, registry, viruses or spyware!

"No matter how fast or shiny computers might be when they're new, they all seem to get slower over time." Microsoft claimed that on their technical forum(Windows 7 forum).

In fact, Windows built-in a lot of services and startup item start with system. So if you want a faster computer, you need to disable some of them first.

I saw an article before. It descripe how to make your windows faster.
