Hi, i'm going to buy a new smartphone and it is not having gyroscope and magnetometer. It has accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor. So my question what is gyroscope used for? I know magnetometer is used to find the strength of magnetic fields but does it have any other applications.
Thank you.

Are you referring to the tilt to move in games like temple run?

Yes. The gyroscope measure the orientation of the phone around the gyro's which remain steady (the phone basically moves around the gyros). The output from the sensors then can be used in driving games to steer a car by tilting the phone to the left or right.

The magnetometer, paired with the phone's GPS will give your device a working compass. It will also assist your device's map application by turning it and being able to tell which direction is true north.
