model/specs would be helpful but generally with Sony the red light flashing 8 times indicates there is an internal video problem with the set. Try these steps and see if it fixes your issue:
•Disconnect all devices from the TV.
•Disconnect the TV from the network.
•If using a wired connection, disconnect the LAN cable.
•If using wireless connection, turn off the router and the modem.
Once you have done all of this you should then try a power reset:

If that fixes it great. If not then the next step would be a factory reset...
