Sony BDV-380 and Dolby

I bought one of these four years ago and am still confused. It is named, and presumably claims to be, a "Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System." But when playing a DVD with Dolby 5.1, despite whatever audio mode is selected, nothing comes out of the rear speakers. It goes without saying that I have used the built-in means of testing that all the speakers are working and balanced for my room.what is going on here? How can Sony, or any other manufacturer, conceive, design, build, market and accept money for a product which simply doesn't do what it says on the tin? Or am I mossing something?

Read the book! Just found out how to do it but it isn't as straightforward as it seems. Not even sure how I managed it - or why/how the system had reverted to Stereo only - why would you,want stereo only when you've bought a surround-sound system?
