Sony Developing PlayStation 3 Reality Show

I second that. Don't you love how reality tv shows aren't even realistic? Too much show & hype to get ratings.

Sony: Put an ad out in your local paper to get a tester. There are plenty of people who need the work in this unstable economy. Why give the job away to some twit who just wants his tv fame? Chances are, whoever wins is not going to be happy with the prize and is going to just move on to do other "reality tv" shows. Either that or try and use his "fame" to find some more interesting work.

I can honestly see this being a crappy prize. Beyond the fact this show already has fail written all over it. Games are fun to play on your personal time. The fun is taken away when your forced to play them for 8 hours at a time (possibly longer I don't know how the system works).

Like sports for me. LOVE to play football, baseball, etc but the moment I joined an official team all fun went out of it. Just felt like another job, so I stopped joining teams.

My 2 cents.

This is a great idea by Sony and also brings the possibilities of becoming a video game tester to more peoples attention. It is a great job that has lots of potential.

Although the position is more likely to do with promoting Sonys PS3 and PSP, it's still a good marketing concept and the lucky winner will land a dream job.

You get a paying job as a beta tester?! That makes it better than 80% of the beta testing jobs currently available.

And you're right, the job isn't glorious. Think of all the opportunity it opens up in the field of Reality Television though! Competitions for fry cooks, shoe salesmen, maybe even garbage men! This can only be good for our country. No longer will you just have to compete with people for jobs based on your appearance on paper, now you have to be able to tackle physical and emotional challenges, as well as being photogenic and charismatic on camera.

Soon the only people with jobs will be those who don't get "voted off" by the internet. What a brave new world we are entering.

It'd be like 24, but we'd be watching the guys/gals on the couch playing a game for 8 hours. The excitement starts when they either get something to eat or take a piss.

Darn it.. I thought they were looking for ideas for a reality game ahow... if the main prize will be a PS3 then it should be called "The even BIGGER loser"...

:)

Growing up I used to think "testing games" for a living was cool, but I have read and seen what a normal work day is for a tester and it sucks, at first glance testers get to test the latest and greatest titles before any of us, but I am sure after testing is complete and game goes gold has a tester they probably never want to look at that title again. I think being a game tester is good for those who don't play video games for fun.

I worked at Intel as a CV tester we tested programs including games on the new CPU's and Motherboards with a wide varity of hardware, trust me it isn't fun at all. we had a Halo Test where we had to play for 30 pull CPU fan keep playing till system shut down, then replace sound card and start over, repeat with thirty different sound cards. I have seen the first level of HALO so many times I can't even say the word "Halo" with out getting sick.
and Hard Drive tests were horrid (open up 4 to 16 threads of test software and watch it run for 30 hours) about as much fun as watching paint dry.

It will be interested to see how motivated (or not) the contestants are to win. I am willing to bet all will be 21 or less. there are so many other better ways to earn a living than a beta tester...

If you really loved it, you'd enjoy being on an official team, just like video games. If you really loved this type of thing, you'd enjoy it. You sir, are just lazy

Former Game Tester Here. The job sucks and you're treated like dirt because the company knows there are 150 highschool drop-outs who will gladly take your place should you quit. Do you long for a job where you have to ask to use the bathroom? I know I do!

If the job paid 100+G a year I'll ask to go to the bath room. I'll shit my pants for 200G a year. It is amazing what money will make people do...
