Sony laptop boots up but screen is blank

Hello,
My Sony laptop boots up but has a black screen, I connected it to my TV and it is OK, I can access it from there, any ideas what's wrong with it please.

check your video settings, you could have disabled the the built in display so the external display on shows up, although that wouldnt justify it not shwoing bios etc on the laptop screen,

if your comfortable the only thing to suggest is taking the LID off the screen and checking connections, you'd be surprised how easy it is for them to be knocked out of the connector,

While it's booting up press F8 a bunch of times. If it shows Safe Mode options choose VGA Mode, log in, and reset your resolution to the proper one for your screen. Make sure you know the proper resolution first by checking the specs of your laptop.
