honestly the idea of an all digital consoel , scares the ---- out of me as a gamer. while i ahve enjoyed steam and own quite afew games throguh it ccompeltely digitallly , steam wont go away just because pc games advanced to the next generation. a consolem generation will , and sony and MS have both shown that backward compatibility isn't really on thier list of high priority things. It's certainly not a big money maker to to have abackward compatibile console, so if i saw a all digital console on the market i would nto be too enthused to grap it , for the simple fact i'd not want to have to "rebuy" all my old games for the next system after it , assuming that all my gmaes were even compatible with the next system.

you kid right, saying 720 p resolution is where it's at?
You must not game on your pc much or have an old lcd monitor if you are happy with the fuzzy low end 720 images that the consoles and those low end monitors poop out.

Still using a high end crt monitor here and 1600x1200 looks worlds apart from a crummy 1024x768 or playing console games at 720p on my hdtv.

Personally i'd just skip on the next gen consoles alltogether if they stuck to the outdated 720p standard, and stick to my pc.

forget the technology aspect, that digital distribution requires high bandwidth, because there are examples where it is not the case. take japan, for instance, japan is the leading nation that has the fastest internet speed. with that in mind, why isn't digital distribution taking effect?? so you see, the answer isn't that people don't have broadband. what is the situation about digital distribution is that people don't have ownership. ownership is the reason why we buy things. if there is no ownership, then why bother buying when you can either not buy it or pirate.

games like those on pc will never have any problems or will face minor problems. but something like consoles, something like steam will be a problem because it runs on a prebuild hardware. if suppose the console maker decides to kill support for previous games, then you're screwed. not only are you screwed, but how likely will they continue to support the servers for those games? the biggest issue would be, how would you sell your junk if the console company decides to kill the console?
