I have a Sony Bravia KDL-48r510c TV and a Sony HT-CT80 soundbar. I purchased them together thinking it would be super easy to set up.
I can get my TV to play through the soundbar using the analog setting, but I understand it will sound better using optical (true?) I followed the very simple instructions and plugged the optical cord from the TV into the sound bar. The subwoofer is also plugged into the soundbar. It is plugged in, turned on with input set to Optical.
I have my TV set to play audio through the external device. (When it was working using analog, I had it set so that the tv remote adjusted the soundbar volume, but I noticed that after my attempts at going optical, it was on Fixed. I set it back to variable.)
There is an HDMI cable running from my TV to an Xbox, and a network cable (the yellow ones...) plugged into the back of my tv, as well.
All this worked on analog. Not using optical.
Is there a TV setting I am missing? My TV's sound options are all greyed out except for Advanced Settings.
I was trying not to be a digital damsel in distress, but I give up!
Please help?
