[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]Tired of other Countries always getting the better phones before us in the US. Dell Streak anyone? What a crock I say![/citation]
That's because our wireless networks SUCK compared to that of Europe. In europe, the smartphones would be put to good use and get good press. In the USA, the smartphones might fall victim to being associated with a bad network. *cough* iPhone *cough*

The main reason that the US is behind the rest of the world in wireless infrastructure is because our wired infrastructure didn't/doesn't suck. We've had landlines available in most of the country for 100+ years now. The rest of the world has always been behind in that respect, and huge wars ravaging a significant portion of the globe over the decades has not helped in that regard.

When basically starting from scratch wireless was a better deal and it was built up fast out of necessity as there was no other option. The biggest reason the US did not follow the same model was because we have wired infrastructure that works well.

Keep an eye on http://wireless.amazon.com/. If the $50 thing is true, then it's probably most like their current deal for the Samsung Captivate which is $49.99 for a new 2-year contract with AT&T.

However, if you are upgrading from a current AT&T plan, then the price of the phone jumps to $100.00.

The Xperia X10 will most likely be the same or similar.

It's listed now, with activation of a new, 2-year contract. Or 79.99 if you're upgrading an individual contract, or $149.99 if upgrading a phone on a family plan.

Even better deal now from Amazon for those who waited a week. For new AT&T and individual plan upgrades, the phone is now $49.99. For AT&T family plan upgrades, the price dropped to $99.99.

Good stuff!
