MY STEREO SYSTEM TRANSMITS HIGH VOLUME INTERMITTENT POPPING SOUNDS INTO THE SPEAKERS. VOLUME HAS ALSO DROPPED TO A LOW LEVEL ALONG WITH THE POPS. I BELIEVE THIS CONDITION IS CAUSED BY A BAD CONDENSER. THE QUESTION IS WHERE? I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY AN ELECTRONICS REPAIR SHOP THAT CONDENSERS CAN EXPLODE WHEN BEING REPLACED. NOT A COMFORTING THOUGHT. THE SHOP TOLD ME MY AMPLIFIER WAS A VERY OLD AND BIG "WORK HORSE." THEY WOULD NOT TOUCH IT.
