We have a Panasonic vs230 projector and we are trying to add a speaker but can't figure out how or what kind of speaker to use

Solution
If the projector has an analog audio output and will pass audio from the HDMI input (which I presume you would use) then any self powered speaker or soundbar with an aux analog input will work.
If not then you would connect the same speaker directly to the source. You may need an HDMI input selector with audio extraction which would provide audio from all you sources.

Usually, projectors have 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack to plug in a speaker. It's the same port you can find on iPad, laptop, etc. Also, some projectors can connect to a speaker via bluetooth.
