Speakers directly to PC

I tried to use 2 speakers of 17 watts. I directly connect the wires to an aux (no amplifier) and connected them to the pc they are working fine until now. But I unplugged them because I am afraid of if my pc sound card or motherboard would get damaged, will it?

If they have been working then they will keep working.
If you hear distortion when you turn the volume up don't play them that loud. You are more likely to damage the speakers than the PC.
