Finding copper in Stardew Valley can be a little tricky since you can’t obtain it from the stones on the farm when you hit them using a pickaxe.
You can purchase copper at inflated prices from the Blacksmith in Pelican Town. However, it is better to look for copper directly in the mines.
Now that you have copper, how can you make copper bars out of them? This guide will tell you exactly how.
Getting and Making Copper Bars
- You first need to wait until day 5 so that you can get access to the Mine
- Once you enter the mine, use the starter sword and start looking for copper veins in the mines
- When you have 25 Stone and 20 Copper, you can make a Furnace
- There should be at least 5 Copper and Coal in your inventory
- While holding the Copper ore, click on the Furnace. This will turn the 5 Copper into one Copper Bar
Finding the Copper
Copper can be found in The Mines. The Mines are located on the far Northeastern side of the town. The quickest way to get there is to go through the farm’s exit on the farm, then head East until you spot the bridge. As you go deeper into the mines, they get progressively tougher. By killing different monsters, you can level the combat skills. Similarly, you can also level the associated skill by mining ores too.
You can make progress in the Mine using the ladder down that you use any time it is revealed. While going through a level, keep an eye out for anything that might be useful, kill some monsters, and then start breaking rocks, etc. until you come across the ladder.
You will recognize a copper ore when you see it. Plus, most useful items tend to stand out there. Also, break crates and barrels, and click on satchels and mines to get a chance to find some coal.
How to Craft a Furnace
To make metal bars, you need to craft a furnace. Regardless of whether you purchase the copper ore or find it somewhere, you will need a furnace in order to smelt the copper into bars that you can then use. It will roughly take 30 seconds to make 5 ores into one bar.
How to Craft Coal
Once you reach Foraging level 4, you get the ability to craft a Charcoal Kiln.
The Kiln can convert 10 wood pieces into 1 piece of coal after about half a minute. The Kiln seems to be a godsend if you have had bad luck with the coal drops!
However, you do need a gold bar. You can purchase a Gold ore from Clint the Blacksmith at 200g each. So, you’ll need to spend 2000g on one bar of gold which will be needed to make the Charcoal Kiln.
Once you have one charcoal required to make that, you should have a plentiful supply, considering your ability to grow trees and plant seeds.
