start up problem

Even antiques don't faze us here, at ~10 years old, I'd think it's just tired. I'll suggest checking the operation of the HDD using SeaTools for DOS http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/ You might try replacing the CMOS battery (not the regular battery, the one on the motherboard) as that sometimes can cause issues

Personally, I'd look over the motherboard for blown capacitors and burnt or blown IC chips but I wouldn't hold out hope for recovery of a system that old, I lost my IBM ThinkPad* at the tender age of 7 - it died of unknown causes (I didn't repair hardware in those days)
