Steam Client won't install games correctly

Hello. I recently tried to install Fallout 4 on Steam and got the following error "An error occurred while updating Fallout 4 (download corrupt)". It says that it's queued, although it's staying like this. On a rare occasion it starts downloading again, but then immediately goes back to being queued. This isn't the first time I've had this issue, it's just never been this bad.

Download Settings:

I have my games download to a separate hard drive on my computer, dedicated to storing files, and my OS and Steam Client are on an SSD.

Download region = US - Chicago

Download Restrictions = Limit auto-updating schedule (unchecked), Allow downloads during gameplay (unchecked), Throttle downloads while streaming (checked), From (blank) to (blank). Limit bandwidth to 7 MB/s.

Other info:

ISP = Comcast

Download speeds = 12 up, 55 down, ping = 22ms

OS = Windows 10 64-bits

Gateway/Router = Arris TG862G-CT, connected to with a Netgear Wireless N Adapter, N600 Dual Band Model # WNDA3100

IP address is static, with my ISP's DNS servers applied.

Well, I'm stumped.

You might try doing a clean install of Steam.

Also, I don't know if the Steam settings-> Download section would be useful.

The "disk write error" is what concerns me though which is why I though it was a memory or drive issue. If not, then it's probably some software issue.

*If you do a Steam install, be sure not to delete the Steamapps folder. For example:
a) MOVE the "Steamapps" folder elsewhere (don't copy), then
b) DELETE steam completely
c) DELETE the remaining folders for Steam
d) Reinstall Steam (point to the same folder through settings->library.. if not default)
e) MOVE Steamapps folder and replace the new one
f) VERIFY each game in Steam prior to launching.

Your save games will be fine. I'm not aware of any games with saves in the Steam main folder that you delete but I suppose it's possible (most are in Documents or a hidden folder in Windows).

It sounds like a defective drive or system memory.

I'd start by running Memtest86 free www.memtest86.com (run for a full pass)

If that passes, then I'd runa drive diagnostic (from manufacturer) as well as run Checkdisk overnight to fix errors (google for how).

It might be something else but start there.

EDIT: I think I've located the culprits. It's Skype and Chrome. Whenever I have Skype open or Chrome running, it seems that my Steam download gets queued shortly after (immediately for Skype). IDK if there's a solution for this problem. On my old pre-built computer I could have both open and no issues at all, now on my new custom-built computer it doesn't want to work. Strange. Also once the download finished it said "download paused" and when I tried to resume it, it said "disk write error" :/

Just did everything you said. Memtest completed a pass without any errors. I ran multiple scans on my HDD and everything came out healthy. I ran chkdsk, I can't say much about this one but I did run it completely. Download is still queued :(

It's ok. I don't blame you because this is only a portion of the problems I've been having lately. Thankfully I did get it installed, I ended up having to delete a file in my steam directory for it to launch. I'm also not the only one having that sort of problem apparently - https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/3s700u/getting_the_disk_write_error_on_windows_10_here/ Anyway thanks for taking your time to try to help me.

I didn't have to delete a file to uninstall steam. I typed it out poorly, I actually reinstalled steam before you even made the suggestion to uninstall it in the first place. When I said I had to delete a file for it to launch, I was talking about Fallout 4. I got it to download correctly, yes. Do my games still get queued when they're downloading? Yes and no. Games that tend to take up over 1GB will get queued if I have my internet browser or skype open, whereas games under that range don't. So if my problem fixed? Well, there's no "solution" so far, only a workaround. From the way this issue is shaping out, it seems like I'll just have to put up with it or find a solid solution. From what I've gathered, it seems like this issue is either a really complicated error or just skype and chrome being douches. I chose your response for this thread as the correct answer because I don't feel like there's much more to do here. Unless you have any last tricks up your sleeve, then I'll just continue to live on with this issue. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome :p
