Steam Deck has stopped me obsessing over frame rates — and I couldn't be happier

I think the Deck hasn't completely gotten rid of my obsession over fps, because when there's the option for an fps counter I will look at it. However, I would say that now I don't obsess about higher frame rates anymore. 60 fps is great, but 40 fps is fine for most games, and in some 30 is okay.

Hmm I don’t know, it’s certainly revived my addiction to having low input lag! 30-40 fps even with v sync disabled feels sluggish. One can make an argument for casual vs competitive experiences, but regardless of what I’m playing I like it to feel responsive.

I'm more quality over quantity. If I can get 45fps+ with the settings maxed out, I'm happy. Sure I'd rather be gaming at 165fps, but it's not worth the tradeoffs to me.

This original article from Tom's guide got me asking the following question.

"Is FPS overlay a self peer pressure to make you wasted money on new gpu?"

Being a low specs gamer give me a better perspective on that question because I'm more interested in whether my rig able to run the game rather than looking at how high is the fps.

My main balance goal is always about getting those snappy aim, low price and nice graphics from the latest triple-A games. The only drawback is that I have to tweak the settings, not just Ingame, but Nvidia settings and incorporated mods as well. Here is how I able to play Starfield on ultra settings at 1080p using a $200, 7 years old laptop.
