Stereo speakers and headset connected to PC

Hi,
I have a set of stereo speakers and a headset which I want them to connect to my onboard sound card at the same time but able to control which one to be used, something like a switch. Is there a switch box or whatever it is called I should look for?

They do sell switches for just the purpose.

You can also build one if you are the DIY type. It is nothing but a double throw double pole switch(6 contacts, enough to switch the left and right from device to device. All grounds get tied together.) and 3 x 3.5mm stereo jacks(in, speakers, headphones).

Do you have a headphone socket on the motherboard and the case? You should be able to switch between them in Windows by changing playback devices

Good point, You may need to enable multi stream on some chips to get it to work like that, others just mute speakers when headphones are connected.
