I have a HP 2000 notebook pc. I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and after many auto updates I turn on computer to see a black screen with the HP logo and a spinning cursor. I tried the f11 , key but no luck. Gives me an error about sudden error or restart and Windows could not be installed. Please help!!

Solution
I am at a loss. I mean it could be malware, viruses, hard drive failure or something else. I would suggest waiting until you return home, however, to do anything at all with it. You don't need it to become completely unrecoverable while you are away.

Side note: If that device is under warranty, they shouldn't be charging you for a fix, unless of course it is out of warranty.

If anyone else has any suggestions, please speak up.
Note: If this problem started after an update (or system reinstall), please make sure the laptop is not connected to the internet in any way before you use the following instructions.

Try the following...

1. Power off the laptop.
2. Power on the laptop.
3. As soon as you see the rotating loading circle, press and hold the Power Button until the computer shuts off.
4. Repeat this process a few times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.
5. Now you want to let the laptop boot to the "Automatic Repair" screen.
6. Click "Advanced Options" and then select "Troubleshoot".
7. Here you want to select "Refresh your PC", if you do not wish to erase data, or "Reset your PC" to erase all data and restore your system.
8. From here just follow the screen instructions until the recovery is completed.

NOTE: You will need to get into the "Advanced Options" in order to get the "Refresh Option". This choice will keep your data, but any programs installed will be lost.

Do not do a "Reset" as that will wipe all data you have on the laptop.

Another version of this is the following...

1. Power off the laptop.
2. Power on the laptop.
3. When screen turns black, hit F10 and ALT repeatedly until the computer shuts off.
4. You shouTo fix the computer you should choose the second option listed.
5. When the next screen loads, choose the option "Reset Device".
6. Now choose which ever type of reset you wish.
7. Your coputer should now restore itself to "Factory Settings".

NOTE: If you get a message saying "Error Resetting Device", then you should have the computer looked at by the manufacturer (if still under warranty) or by a tech.

Neither of these two methods acted the way they should. Upon trying the second method I got to an edit boot menu
Which on the final line said
NoExecute=optin/novga
What does this mean and can I do anything with this option

Besides the update to 8.1, what else was done to the computer? Any other changes to anything? IT makes me curious, because that error I have seen happen with 10 but not 8.1. It sounds to me like you may need to remove the changes and restore it to the original system.

I am not completely sure that's all that happened. I had just upgraded to 8.1 for the second time. It seems to have network problems at a certain point with the upgrade and doesn't want to connect to the internet especially unsecured. That was what triggered it to crash. I spoke with ms and they took told me I had a system crash and to call hp. I don't have the flashed recovery with me and hp wants to charge 100$ to access my

I'm a struggling photographer and can't afford that. However all my pictures are on there. Any suggestiins couldn't hurt at this point and I won't get home until next week as I am travelling when this happened
