Studio Monitors that can hook up to PC for $100-150

Ive been using some 10+ year old altec lancing 2.1 basic speakers for a while now and ive been wanting better overall quality. It will be used mostly for casual music listening and gaming.

Im aware that it might not be possible but i would like to keep bass reproduction decent unless there is a way i can reuse the altec lancing subwoofer. I have no clue what this altec lancing sub is made of, probably some 4" driver ported, but its not bad.

What are you suggestions? I keep watch daily on slickdeals so i dont mind waiting for a deal to pop up unless there are some go to solutions that easily hook up to the pc either with a 3.5mm to rca jack or whatever.

It's still very hard to beat the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 even after all these years if you want good bass.

he did mention studio monitors instead of pc speakers.

for that price, the mackie cr3 or cr4, maudio av32 or 42 are good buys. or, if you bought a mini amplifier you could use speakers like the pioneer bs22, micca mb42 or klipsch icon. a good amp though will blow the budget.

agreed that the promedia isnt a bad set per se but the subwoofer is overkill and overpowers the speakers if you have it turned up at all. otherwise, it was a nice set and i would have kept mine.

i think i might just give those promedias a try. they are $109 right now at my local bestbuy and i have a $100 bestbuy gift card i got a while back for $76 that i haven't found good use for. at worst if i dont like them i will return them. seems like for my target price they are the best bang for my buck.

I still have Logitech Z2300s from ~2005ish. I'd probably get the Pro Medias if I ever replace them but 95% or really more like 99% of the time I use the desktop I'm using headphones. I'm a fan of the Klipsch sound though and use them in my main stereo.

Thanks guys. I ended up purchasing a pair of JBL LSR305 studio monitors on a deal for $200. The reviews on them are nothing short of stellar. They almost have the bass output as the promedias i tried but cleaner. But overall sound volume, range, and imaging is on a whole different level. I would definitely recommend them or similarly rated studio monitors if someone is looking to jump to the next level of audio quality and experience.
