Subwoofer connection question

I have a Pioneer VSX-823 receiver which has a Preout Subwoofer port. I want to connect it to my old Polkaudio RM1000W subwoofer which only has hardwired LR channel connections. I plan to buy a female jack and hardwire it to the subwoofer. Will this work and does it matter that it is only connected to only the L or R channel on the SW?

Solution
likely the subwoofer is passive and not powered which means it needs an amplifier to run.

the pre-out sub jack is not amped and is meant for powered subwoofers (ones with an ac cord)

to use it connected in the way you intend you'd need an amplifier.
