Suggestions for medium range gaming laptop

Hi there, Im a student looking to upgrade my old Alienware m14x, any suggestions would be appreciated!
Also some other requirements I'd like: Nvidia 970m (or 980m) graphics card, 16GB (or more) of RAM.

General Questions

1) What is your budget?
£1000-£1600

2) What size notebook would you prefer?
Either:
c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: Alienware, MSI, Razer
b. Dislike: Nothing in particular

5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
No

6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Gaming, web browsing, using it at university for studies, watching tv/movies, downloads

7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
Both, but mostly at my desk and weight is not an issue

8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
Yes, mostly FPS games, do not require running anything on amazing settings

9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Battery life is not super important but at least 3-4 hours would be great

10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
I would buy it online but I would need to see pictures

11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

Notebook Components

Ideally at least 500GB, 1TB would be preferred. I do not need an SSD, it would be a bonus to have one.

If you want battery life that seriously limits options but there are 3 laptops that I know of:
razer blade 14 (expensive but thin )
aorus x3 plus (expensive but also thin)
alienware 15(best battery life and with reasonable price but heavier)

they all can be equipped with higher res displays. They also come with at least 970m (so serious futureproof gaming!). And in my opinion they all look good.
