[citation][nom]willard[/nom]Actually, despite this common cry, that we are progressing backward as a species, IQs and other standardized test scores have been increasing consistently since we began keeping records. Humans are getting smarter, not dumber.[/citation]
As we learn more about how to teach ourselves and learn more about everything in general, of course we're going to progress. I wouldn't put much faith in IQ scores or even standardized test scores... They're based off of learned knowledge or techniques, and people are getting taught more and more. The fundamental structure of the brain is impossible to test though.
This isn't exactly super complex technology, you can literally make one with a 9v battery, some wire and a couple pennies (I do not recommend you do this).
Yeah, I'll go do that for laughs.
Also, what's going to make this technology disappear? Humans are excellent at archiving, technology doesn't just disappear. This almost made me spit my coffee out it's so funny. That you think you can write memories in this way shows a profound lack of understanding of either the technology or the brain, and I doubt you have much of an understanding of electricity, since you called it voltage.1. Memories are written in the same way every other structure in the brain modifies itself, by creating and breaking connections between neurons.2. Shooting electricity into your brain can't target specific neurons. Instead, it will electrify whole regions of the brain.3. Formation of memories is extremely poorly understood, so even if we could target specific neurons and use electricity to break and create connections, our understanding of the brain is literally decades away from even beginning to think about something like this. You've been reading way too much science fiction if you think any part of what you said is remotely possible.
Humans can take away(or (ab)use) technology from other humans... It will just be another warfare tactic...

You're right, I don't know anything about this tech. Can you explain it to me(rhetorical question)? Just the thought of electricity entering someone's head makes me think somebody with a little know-how about the technology could easily fry their brain. I will go learn about it a little bit later.

As we progress, we may someday find that we can accurately pinpoint neurons in the brain and change them into what we see fit. It's not about this technology directly. It's about the progression of neural technology to that level. If our understanding of the brain right now is so lacking, how do you know we can't do this?

Being blind of the 'impossible' allows other people to gain control. You just need one genius with a motive to control everything... I'm only paranoid because I've learned from history that some people will use anything to gain power.

In "Forbidden Planet" Leslie Nielsen took the Krell 'brain boost' and it allowed him to hook up with Ann Francis. Please, put me down ;-)

I can see it already: dumb criminal videos of dumb criminals who fried their brains out.

Sequel: Dumb and dumber Criminal files....

[citation][nom]Haserath[/nom]Yet the more we use technology to enhance ourselves, the more de-evolution takes place. What happens when we rely on this technology then it disappears? I know, we shouldn't care about that since we probably won't have to worry about it in our lives(blah blah blah all about us blah blah blah who cares about the future populace blah blah blah). Then you could also have people that use the technology to implant thoughts into users(ie mind control). Yeah, 'it won't happen' until it happens; our brains create memories using voltage, so this could possibly do something like that. Call me crazy...[/citation]

No sense in being paranoid about something you know nothing about. Reminds me of people who think robots will take over the world. seriously not going to happen. We'll need at least a few hundred years for their technology to greatly improve.

That's probably true, but predicting the future in a year or two is often fairly difficult, depending on the context. I'll need a few pounds of salt to assume anyone knows how long it will take us to accompolsih something that we don't know enough about to make an accurate prediction.

Seriously, just how long did it take us from the first flight of the Wright brothers (is that spelled correctly?) to the landing on the moon? Wasn't it something like 60 or 70 years? Well, we are already this ar, maybe we can get something within this century. Considering that we already have this level of technology, maybe we can do something like this even faster than that.

I don't think overclocking your brain is a good idea.
Yeah, your bulb will burn brighter, but usually bright bulbs burn out faster.
And you prob. void your warranty as your maker will later tell you :)

We are progressing forward problem is things like religion keep us in the dark. Without religion filling peoples minds with crap would we progress much much faster.

I've read about this on popular science and a few other sites. Very interesting. Definitely need long term studies first.

Just in case people don't know, they did a study on parkinson's a while back, and they found that people who have been welding for a professions have a much higher risk of getting parkinson's. Now welding is just electricity, higher voltage of course, but it's not actually touching you, so I don't know if it's from the electricity, or the magnetic fields it gives off. Nobody knows. So, this definitely needs a longer term study, because what if, it raises your risk to get parkinsons, or does some other long term damage that they don't know about? Then your basically trading in your old age for a little boost in the learning curve.

Now, there is a difference between learning rates, and raising intelligence, so just because you learn "faster", doesn't mean your going to be smarter in the end. You just save some time studying basically.
There are many ways to learn faster, photoreading, mnemonics, ect.. There are plenty of books out there to teach you methods how to learn faster. Why risk your health? The P.H.D. students in the video, didn't seam very confident that it's safe, and they are P.H.D. students.

I have a couple of peope in my office that could benefit from this tech..... just so they come roughly up to the same level as most other people

[citation][nom]wild9[/nom]I wanna under-volt my brain.[/citation]

Don't read technical news.
Simply read Apple news for the under-voltage population.

It already exists : it's called a foam-dome.
