Assuming this is the Surface Book 2 version you're considering:

... it comes out at $1,385. In this price range, most of the competition has moved on to quad-core 8th-gen Intel CPUs. These units offer a 40 per cent efficiency increase over the dual-core 7th gen found in the Surface Book 2.

Here are a few rivals from BestBuy with similar specs:

This Lenovo Yoga 920 is available for $1,300 and offers similar specs - except it comes with the quad-core...
From your background info, I'd say the Surface Book 2 seems perfect for you. But I would like to know how much this thing will cost. The reason is that Microsoft's current product line consists of very elegant and decently powerful machines, but they are also very expensive.

I just can't help thinking that you should be able to get better specs for the same price, or the same specs at a much lower price. But if you like the Surface Book 2 - and I can certainly understand why you would - there's nothing wrong with it.

Agree with above, the Surface Book is a premium high end and high priced product. If you at all concerned about the price then chances are you would get more for your money elsewhere, now other options might not be the same quality but can have great functionality.

Thanks for your input, the reason i chose surface book because of its versatility, but it is way top of my price range. but i need a laptop and a tablet for my school work soon.

Can you suggest me some other options that i should look into that are cheaper and have better specs than these. i am not a tech guy so any help or advice will help! Thanks!

This Lenovo Yoga 920 is available for $1,300 and offers similar specs - except it comes with the quad-core 8th-gen CPU. Battery life is on par with the Surface Book. Build-quality in the Yoga line is very good, if not exactly on par with the Surface Book.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-spectre-x360-2-in-1-13-3-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-256gb-solid-state-drive-hp-finish-in-natural-silver/6080237.p?skuId=6080237
This HP Spectre is identical to the Yoga, except it's slightly less expensive at $1,250.

And finally:

This ASUS Zenbook features the same CPU as the Yoga and Spectre but adds double the SSD storage and RAM for $1,100. Very light and battery life should be around the 10-hour mark. If you really are on a budget but still want great specs and decent battery life, this ASUS definitely fits the bill.

NOTE: The Surface Book 2 retains one unique feature and that's the 3000 x 2000 screen. This is a bit of an odd resolution, but I know that some people are absolutely taken by it and won't 'go back' to anything else. If you feel the same way, then you really don't have much of a choice. But if you can live with 2K resolution, there are dozens of desirable alternatives.

Best of luck,
GreyCatz.
