With the new Ipad and new surface coming out, I dont know which to get.

Each are very different from one another, I know. But essentially my main use for each devicce will be as follows:

Drawing, or sketching building floorplans. (main ability)
Internet use. Ipad wins this battle with network.
Functionality.
Memory.
Speed.
Fun for when not working.
Bragging rights? I will admit, I want the "cooler" piece of equipment. But...work first.

What are peoples thoughts and opinions on these upcoming devices?

I had a MS Surface Pro for about 4 days. That's how long it took me to decide to return it. It is no match for an ipad. And the Win8 OS is horrible. It can't decide if it wants to be a desktop/laptop OS or a tablet OS, and it does neither well. If you want the best tablet, bar none, go with the ipad; any ipad. If you want headaches, go with the Surface.

Surface RT is even more frustrating than the Pro is - you can't run Windows applications on it.

If creating building floor plans is the main use for this system, I would think the iPad would be immediately eliminated as a choice (unless there is an app that can do that which I am not aware of). I have a first gen Surface Pro and I love it. I use it almost every day and love that I finally have a tablet running a version of Windows that actually works on both the desktop and mobile platforms.

If you are wanting to sketch or draw building floorplans as an amateur, or even professionally, I don't know of any reason why one would even consider the iPad. The Surface Pro running a full copy of Windows 8 (and eventually 8.1) can do that, and whatever else you would want a computer to do (although it may do it a bit slower than higher end desktops and laptops could).

Edit: FYI - Don't bother with the Surface RT, or Surface 2. The only Surface systems that should be considered are the Surface Pro, and the Surface Pro 2.

Im an owner of each of the originals. Love each very much. As such it was a hard decision on which to choose.
However...
Based on some research and upcoming technologies, I am going to get the ipad5. With the technology available I am going to be making an app to render buildings accurately in 3d for the Ipad as easy as just taking a picture.

Ahh ok. I was under the impression that you were going to use what was available, but if you're planning to write your own iPad app to do this, that would be the way to go. Good luck!
