Hi folks,

i have a 44inc Samsung plasma and am looking to buy a surround system, due to my limited budget i have been looking at this one

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DAVTZ140-5-1ch-Cinema-System/dp/B0074ZRNAY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412711549&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+5.1

my question is as my TV is unlikely to have ARC its around 3 years old now, i read that could connect this to my TV using the aux in on the back the red and white plugs and this would then allow the speakers to play my TV sound.

if i where to buy this as well

http://www.amazon.co.uk/eSynic-Digital-Adapter-Decoder-Optical/dp/B00AZHNXNO/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1412711918&sr=1-3&keywords=esynic+digital+optical

and run the AUX out from the surround system into this, then the optical out to my tv would this allow 5.1?

also would this work with a chromecast dongle. would like to stream my movies in hd and get surround sound , which is the whole point of buying the system :)

Impossible to help without knowing which HDTV you own to determine how it outputs audio.

After that, it's likely once you setup everything all audio inputs regardless of how they connect to your HDTV will be setup as output to your Surround Sound so your Chromecast would work.

I'm uncertain how VOLUME control works as well (HDTV's, Surround, or both?), though again we need to know which HDTV you have.

Personally, I found Surround Sound tricky to setup. As well, in terms of quality of audio I'd rather have a good SOUNDBAR than an inexpensive surround setup with likely pretty cheap speakers especially the rear ones.
