Hi, my laptop screen went black, so insead of repairing it as it cost alot, i bought a newertech usb universal drive adaptor to access the hardrive from my old laptop. I took the hardrive out, connected everything as i should. Soon as its connected to my new laptop, the computer window pops up but it all it says about the old laptop hardrive is system reserved. Can anyone tell me how i can access the data from my old laptop please. Thank you

Unfortunately you cannot do that assuming the data you are attempting to access is on the C: drive where the OS is installed.

This is a security feature embedded into the Windows operating which is meant to deter data theft. The data on the C: drive can only be accessed by the specific OS installed on that C: drive. It probably uses the embedded Windows activation code along with other specific data that uniquely identifies the Windows OS.

In short, you will unfortunately have to get that laptop screen repaired or find a reputable company that does data recovery which would be even more expensive and data recovery is not guaranteed... but that generally refers to hard drives that are no longer operational.

While you are likely the rightful owner of the laptop with the broken screen, I am locking this topic because further discussion can lead to replies which may help you, but also may also potentially provide information to others who are truly looking for a way to circumvent Microsoft's security features and allow them steal other people's data.
