Marcus is an American writer, and this is an article for the US section of Tom's hardware, under an American URL (there isn't a fucking .uk here). Therefore, he misspelled "jewelry". If this was a Canadian or British article, "jewellery" would have been correct, but in this case its not. I don't appreciate someone being called a "stupid Yank" for giving the writer the correct local spelling.
If I was reading a British article, and the writer used the spelling "harbor" instead of "harbour", and a British commenter corrected the writer, I would keep my fucking mouth shut. Which is what you should have done.
