Another disadvantage of playstation. People should consider playing games on PC 😀

The best way to execute this primate is to tie him up real good and lie him down hanging over a growing bamboo shoot. Let the bamboo shoot to grow THROUGH his body while he's still ALIVE.
There's no better way to execute this ape.

Drunken driver kills child crossing road, consoles blamed since both had one in their house......roll on usual consoles cause people to kill each other bullshine

The kid clearly had anger management issues, coupled with the fact that most teenagers feel their parents are dumping on them. Chances are this was building for months and 3 hours, it was bloody pre mediated! 3hours and he didn't cool down shows there was more to this. Plus the fact he didn't fly off the handle straight away.

She probably interrupted his Grand Theft Auto (insert number here). better parenting like denying him games that make him numb to what he did. I bet 100% he has GTA

The Mom had it Coming! Are we Forgetting She Stole "took away" his PlayStation!

Get a Grip People! That Poor Kid... She Basically committed Suicide ,

This is old news. It was all over the news the same week it happened. I thought it was even on TomsHardware, but maybe it was MSN news or something...

I don't know why the article states that this has just hit news channels recently.

Anyways, the kid clearly had some underlying mental issues that were never identified before this happened.

[citation][nom]anacandor[/nom]Maybe this just proves that video games promote violence...[/citation]

... or it just goes to show that there are violent people out there with issues. The game didn't decide to kill his mother, he did. People always love to find an excuse but the reality is that people get angry and do stupid things. Everyone wants to point the blame at games, guns, etc, etc. but at the end of the day it is a person that makes a choice. He paced around for 3 hours, and then decided to kill his mother, thats more than enough time from someone to work out their anger, at that point he was rationally thinking about what he wanted to do to get back at her. Anyone that can walk around for 3 hours and keep their anger ramped up enough to be non-rational and kill someone has serious mental health issues ... which is still not an excuse but more a reason than video games.

Wow, did you just bet he has a copy of one of the most popular console games in history. Talk about hedging your bets. Dude, I have played all of the GTA games, never once though about killing my Mother. Lets use a bit of logic and stop just spewing the same old crap. If it was really an impulse control issue he would have few off the handle when she took it away, not 3 hours later. This kid was seriously disturbed before he ever picked up a controller to a game console.

Also, based on your logic, the longer people have played games the more likely they are to be violent ... I have been playing games since I had to hand code them on a Commodore 64 in the 80's ... which would mean I am a serial killer at this point. Last I checked, haven't killed anyone, haven't been in a fight with someone since 4th grade.

...since the 4th grade, lol.

you see, like the kid said, he wasn't thinking about it. when you beat the hell out of hookerz and such in a video game (i'm sure the ps3 was not his first console) he was taught it's fun to do this, no it's not the only variable but where else do you learn to beat someone senseless. Obviously he had issues, but if he was mentally handicapped or had a diagnosis it would have been published. We don't know enough to say what caused it, but I do believe 100% GTA had a hand in this probably countless hours of playing it, that plus lack of parenting (we also hear nothing of the father) My wife is a doctor of Psychology and she deals with kids. 100% of the time environmental variables cause the outcome not a random thought in one's mind. there's
always more to a story than she ever hears but after seeing enough cases she attributes it to a. how they were raised and b. what they were exposed too. when you get old enough to see your own kids go through school you'll notice at first how they mimic everything you do, then a blend of sorts when they see siblings at school. If instilled deep enough and you show them why certain choices are not something they want to do they hold to the original knowledge of what there parents think is right. once you get married you see 2 "mini cultures" collide when your wife wants to put peanut butter in the fridge or leave katsup on the table It's what you grew up with.

Very sad that ignorant people see this story and automatically think video games could be to blame. The argument that video games 'numb kids minds' and make them into mindless zombies is idiotic.

It is very obvious this kid must have had ongoing mental issues and the problem in the household was probably going on for many months or longer. It is not the mother's fault as some people say, but obviously the kids mother should have picked up on the fact that there were problems in their relationship that weren't being resolved properly.

The story here isn't - 'Mom takes PS3, kid kills her out of anger'
The story is - 'Unresolved family problems culminate in troubled kid killing his mother after a lengthy heated argument"

The PS3 is irrelevent and had nothing to do with what happened. A troubled kid could become just as enraged if he was a hockey player and his mom took away his goalie pads.

never seen a kid that addicted to a physical game, it's always with the consoles. hell, i never seen something like mom takes away teenagers car keys, teen goes on rampage killing mother. Think before you talk. there is an attachment that is unique to certain games at that age group. hormones actually have a big part in it too. no one said mindless zombie. But If you picture a 16yr old boy, walking through the house with a claw hammer, beating his mom senseless, then dragging to the oven.. then partially burying in a pile of trash in back.. He wasn't thinking. it's not like he planned the whole thing. 3 hours is not "pre-meditated" The point is that if it was not a console. she wouldn't be dead. 100% true. also that a big hand was probably GTA 100% true it de-sensitized him enough to do it. all other variables aside. it was in the list.

also, Ongoing mental issue? where is that said. I'm sure the first thing they did was test him for such evidence. and they found none.

psychologist Bruce Bartholow from the University of Missouri-Columbia and colleagues have found that people who play violent video games show diminished brain responses to images of real-life violence, such as gun attacks, but not to other emotionally disturbing pictures, such as those of dead animals, or sick children. And the reduction in response is correlated with aggressive behaviour.

here's a good read for the non-ignorant/worried parent:

That kid should be thrown in an oven himself. From those disturbing details it sounds like he's beyond help.

Idk if it's worthless parents not doing their job or the kids themselves that are missing a few connections upstairs but something needs to be done to correct these kind of problems. Society is slowly starting to unravel, despite other claims that we're becoming more "civilized".

Xiao Yi was 13 when he jumped from the top of a 24-story building. The note he left behind for his parents was written from the point of view of a video game character. Further, the note detailed his wish to meet three of his gaming friends in the afterlife. His parents asked him, at one point, about his addiction. He replied that he “had been poisoned by games and could no longer control himself.”
