Texting app

hey, is there an app out there that allows free texting basically? i know of ones like liveprofile and whatsapp but they all seem to be only smartphone to smartphone, and the other person has to have the app. is there one where i can just like text someones phone and they dont have to do anything?

Don't think there are any that work that way, you either need the app since it connects to the central server to connect, or use the regular service.
