Ummm... that looks like a desktop layed on it's side with a laptop monitor. Has to be a joke.

As for the best out there, you might talk directly to killernotebooks or some other truely custom builder. If I've read things correctly, killernotebooks can mod things for you like heat pipes and whatnots. Then overclock it.

I love to see an article somewhere on extreme overclocking for laptops and mods. An idea I've always had is since high performance take lots of power and I plug it in anyway, why not delete the battery and replace it with some sort of exotic cooling solution.

hmm.....building that website would be too much trouble for it to be a joke. Besides, Killernotebooks mentioned a laptop similar to that coming out in the previous thread....

I would just love to see a real picture. I am also looking around for a (top of line) laptop in December timeframe....but at 4" thick....I just don't think I would bite on this one.

Those older Dells (pre XPS) were so thick, they killed my wrists...I don't see how 4" is useable.

I'm sorry you feel that way, there are indeed many scams out there, and I do remember the one where the guy featured processors that don't exist. (I do not mean to advertise here, merely explain what is behind the website being discussed.) Mobile MediaFX, like KillerNotebooks, is not one of these. We are a small company just getting started so I did myself build that page. The image is also a rendering used to design the layout of the machine. It is not a full image because we are waiting for a couple parts to arrive in a couple weeks before beginning to ship units.
I would suggest that the origninal poster select a machine based upon the performance, upgradeability, and desired level of mobility. In the first two categories our products might serve well. However, there are many notebook vendors that offer better portability, such as Killer Notebooks. I would suggest you shop around for the best system within your desired weight range.

Also, MM: One word of advice: as a consumer, I don't know what the differences between the FX and the GT and the Ultra are. Be sure that you have some distinction between the three (have side by side comparisons, simpler naming schemes, etc.)

Oh, and: Additional AC outlet: Power another device via a wall-style AC outlet built into the laptop. 8O that's crazy. I don't want to know how much those weigh.


That would be PERFECT for those high-stakes lan parties. . .

KN, your notebooks do look rather nice to me, and you are well known on these forums. However, we are both in separate niches in the market. Yours attempts to temper performance somewhat relative to the desktop for greater weight reduction, while my machines are targeted at offering at least desktop performance, while remaining light enough to be carried around.

While, I'll spare you the specifics of our power system, it uses ATX motherboards (better upgradeability) and can run on (preferrably efficient) standard power supplies and uses a 708 Watt*hr battery. This provides the power to run a rather hungry system, which will be necessary with the advent of quad-core processors this month and the NVidia 8800 series.
